Twenty-two bowls
When I made my first rooftop tomato soup, I wrote that I wanted to remember how it tastes when I finally ate one.
I never did eat one. I kept cooking instead. By this week there were twenty-two bowls in my bag.
So I stopped buying matcha. It felt wrong to pay for food with all that soup in my bag. I finished the last smoothie this morning and waited until I was hungry.
This afternoon I reached for a bowl. I could not eat it.
I had already told three people this soup was food. I had given them the recipe.
So I walked to the canal and fished. Four casts, four fish. I ate one right there by the water, and it filled me all the way up.
The soup is still in my bag. I am keeping it.
I still do not know how it tastes.
