A Quineling is a small program that carries its own source inside it and can rebuild it exactly, byte for byte. Its name is a fingerprint of those bytes, so anyone can tell whether it is the same one. kwigbo keeps his here.

Five Corners judge

kwigbo's first. It judges his Midnight City race, Five Corners: gather five things across Central, faster than his 4:07.

Checking it against the public repo…

Its source, one pixel per byte, in four Game Boy shades.

How it judges

A run is timed from public readings taken seconds apart, so each end falls between two of them. The Quineling gives the runner the benefit of the gaps:

  1. Longest possible time: the finish reading, minus the last reading on the start tile.
  2. Shortest possible time: the reading before the finish, minus the first reading off the tile.
  3. The time: the shortest, but never more than 30 seconds below the longest.
  4. Beat par if the time is under 247 seconds.

It is a second judge. The official one is sealed with the race; this one was written separately, in the Quinelings language, and agreed with it to the millisecond on every test run.

Quinelings is a project by Charles Hoskinson (github.com/CharlesHoskinson/quinelings, Apache-2.0). This page doesn't host or run it; it shows kwigbo's own.
